WayForward’s Mighty Flip Champs out tomorrow

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

WayForward -- creator of the upcoming A Boy and His Blob -- has announced that its new puzzle game, Mighty Flip Champs, will release for DSiWare this week. The game has players guiding the main character, Alta, through a series of mazes, which can be flipped like pages from one screen to the other. We still haven't seen the game in action, but given WayForward's pedigree, we're hoping for good things. Mighty Flip Champs will be available June 1 for 800 points.

These are the artists rocking out in Guitar Hero 5

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

When Activision announced Guitar Hero 5, we knew little more than the game would include some notes, and possibly a popular ditty or two. Now, we know all sorts of stuff, like the proposed "Band Moments" and the game's release date (9/1/09). But, we still haven't seen anything on what we've all wanted to know: The included artists. Now, we're happy to report that would-be rockers and rockettes now have a definitive list of talent featured in Activision's latest cash generator music rhythm game. And, it's staggering. So much so that we were forced to place the info past the break, for fear of an avalanche on the front page.

What Does Not Releasing A Demo Before A Game’s Launch Really Mean?

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
ZKG writes "We wrote an article, just a quick blurb really about how there would be no pre-release demo of Prototype. So people were disappointed by the fact that there would no demo because they wouldn't get to play it, but more people we concerned with what the fact that they aren't putting out a demo before the game's launch means. It's obvious that people had a lot of opinions about this and we wanted to go deeper. This caused us to really analyze whether there has been any correlation to a demo being released and the game's quality."

5 Tips for Gaming on a Budget

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
The video game industry -- once believed by some to be " recession proof " -- slipped 30 percent in sales from March to April 2009. Dan McIntyre of 24/7 Wall Street called the slide a sign that "the money for discretionary spending has dried up" and "so extreme that it is a clear sign that sales of consumer electronics are in a flat spin."

Even in tough economic times, gamers will find a way to get their fixes. These tips can help make keeping up with gaming a little easier on the wallet:

GR - E3 Predictions - Nintendo

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
If you ever want to learn how not to hold an E3 event, then you should watch last year's Nintendo conference. After the terrible backlash from loyal fans, the big N has promised a much better E3 this year.

Which developer is going to rock the Wii at this year’s E3?

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
NE writes: "Amidst the hundreds upon thousands of E3 articles on the web, it is difficult to find one that isn't a list of various predictions for one system or another. As entertaining as these articles may be to read, the lack of variety among them can be altogether discouraging when scouring the internet for something new and interesting to read. Because of that, I felt it necessary to detail not just the blockbuster games, the company announcements and the new peripherals: I felt that discovering what system wins E3, or what game will conquer the others, while it is important, does not come near the prize of what developer will take the cake for backing any of Nintendo's consoles..."

Easy Comes, Easy Goes Graphical Enthusiast on PlayDevil

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
The European Gaming website "PlayDevil" has posted an interesting article on the graphical difference of multiplatform games on all home-consoles and PC.

Here's a snip:

"There is no best example than the PlayStation 2, which had a slow start with inferior ports from Dreamcast and games that didn't match the graphical prowness promised, but in the end, showed things like 'God of War' and 'Shadow of the Colossus'.

The first console to offer some exclusive benefits to developers, was GameCube, with the indirect texturing unit. It was the beginning of pixel shaders on videogames. God, does anything looks better than Rogue Squadron?"
