Rock Band 2 welcomes Guitar Hero instruments

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Filed under:

IGN added further confirmation of a December release date for the Wii version of Rock Band 2, which is no doubt a comfort to many holiday gift-givers who may otherwise have a big hole in their shopping lists. However, IGN's preview states that it's coming out December 22, while GameStop said December 18. At least we're zeroing in on a specific day!

The most awesome news, however, is that IGN tried out the Wii Guitar Hero: World Tour instruments -- and they worked, as did Guitar Hero 3 guitars. They didn't have any Rock Band 2 instruments to test with Guitar Hero, unfortunately, but we're thrilled to hear about any interoperability at all.

Oh, and if the new video at the top of the post didn't clue you in, there are some new videos.

[Thanks, face!]

Gamestop says to expect Rock Band 2 this month

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Filed under:

According to a Gamestop newsletter that hit our inbox, we should all expect Rock Band 2 to release this month. We guess that listing for January on Harmonix's site really was an error after all? Either way, for those of you that decided to skip the Guitar Hero: World Tour train, your alternative will be shipping on December 18th (and don't forget about those free downloads!).

Who's looking forward to Rock Band 2? Or, are we all still mad at Harmonix? Head past the break for the tidbit from Gamestop's newsletter.

No Doubt to release singles as DLC in Rock Band [update]

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Filed under:

Even though the Wii hasn't received Rock Band 2 yet, Harmonix has promised us basically all of the game's DLC, as well as compatibility with other instruments, finally allowing the Wii version of the game to be the actual game. So, seeing as how No Doubt will be releasing 13 songs for download in Rock Band 2 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 next week, we should expect the same to arrive on Wii when we actually get Rock Band 2. So, what tracks are they?

Well, they're 13 of the 15 tracks on their "The Singles Collection" album, which, as you might have guessed, features the biggest singles from the band's long career. But, for some reason, two of these songs won't be included as DLC. Which two tracks are they? We're not sure, as No Doubt didn't say which specific tracks would be offered when they posted the news on their official site. So, we'll just have to wait and see.

Any No Doubt fans out there? Looking forward to rocking out to their songs in Rock Band 2, or did you already buy Guitar Hero: World Tour and you could care less about Rock Band at this point? And, if you're curious about what song's are featured in No Doubt's "The Singles Collection," then head past the break for the full track list.

Update: Thanks to Joystiq, we know what two tracks won't be included: "New" and "Trapped In a Box"

The Singles Collection DLC includes:
  • Just a Girl
  • It's My Life
  • Hey Baby
  • Bathwater
  • Sunday Morning
  • Hella Good
  • Underneath It All
  • Excuse Me Mr.
  • Running
  • Spiderwebs
  • Simple Kind of Life
  • Don't Speak
  • Ex-Girlfriend

Rock Band 2 drum kit hides mystery port

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

The updated drum kit for Rock Band 2 apparently has a mystery port located in the back. This port, which was speculated to be used for a second kicker, won't actually be used for that. This, of course, has led to all kinds of speculation about what it's function actually is. Could it support something new, like the Guitar Hero rumor we heard awhile back? Harmonix isn't saying, for now.

Rock Band 2 vs. Guitar Hero: World Tour. For other systems, it's an arms race for the most features. For us, it's a battle to remove the fewest. For Australian Wii owners, the winner will be the game that actually gets released!
